Integrative Medicine

We tend to think of Western medicine as cold and scientific, Eastern medicine as caring and spiritual. Actually, elements of science and human touch are woven together in all forms of medicine.

Integrative medicine seeks to identify the best practices from many medical cultures and bring them together. It is the merging of the scientific and the more mysterious aspects of health, the sacred part of our lives. By appreciation for the balance that is required to maintain health and prevent disease, we strive to search for our innermost selves so that we can make the healthy lifestyle choices required in today’s world.

My office offers you the highest quality of conventional medical diagnoses and treatment together with a consideration of alternative practices.

You, the patient, benefit by taking an active role in balancing your life, the healing process and the prevention of disease. Your own case is a learning experience for both you and me. I can be your guide through the esoteric intricacies of medicine, but you are my teacher when it comes to your own body and the life you live in it.

By approaching healing and prevention together, with the aid of Western Medicine, medical acupuncture and a combination of nutrition, fitness and lifestyle adjustments that work for you, you will find your balance, your sense of a healthy life led to its fullest.

This is integrative medicine.

I came to see
Dr. Maier because
I couldn't sleep
...

I couldn't sleep, had PMS, was anxious, depressed, irritable with my kids and husband and couldn’t get my mother’s death off my mind. I was up at night, crying, missing my Mom and making lists of what I needed to do the next day.

"I was exercising 1.5 hours per day to control my weight and drinking two glasses of wine at least at night to be able to get to sleep and feel sexy for my husband. I was terrified that the headaches I had every day meant that I had a brain tumor.

"I went to Dr. Maier to make sure I didn’t have that tumor and to get some relief. By systematically evaluating each symptom, she ultimately showed me that I didn’t have a brain tumor and I didn’t need Ambien or Prozac.

"We did hormonal testing which showed that I was low in progesterone in the later part of my cycle. We replaced my progesterone deficiency with bioidentical hormones, resolving my PMS, irritability and lack of libido.

"We did acupuncture to correct my liver deficiency and restore my Qi. I now sleep, exercise comfortably and allow my grief about the loss of my Mom to surface when it does.

"We did an MRI to confirm that there wasn’t a brain tumor and worked with my nutrition to prevent the migraines I was having.

"Dr. Maier guided me and showed me that courage, determination, and the desire for a healthy balanced life were ultimately up to me."
